Dr. Ruth B. Crawford, a 1939 graduate of Paine College, and an avid supporter of the College, invited the fall semester 2013 and spring semester 2014 student teachers to her home for a chat and lunch Monday, May 5, 2014 at 12:00 noon. Mrs. Crawford wanted to share with the new teachers her experiences as a student, student teacher, supervising teacher, and veteran teacher over her 38 years in the teaching profession. A big surprise was Dr. Crawford’s salary of $60.00 a month when she began teaching in Georgia.

The new teachers enjoyed looking through the many artifacts Dr. Crawford had displayed for them, including one of her books, The Woods Afire and the Paine College Flag, which she designed. Each new teacher came away with a replica of the flag.

New teachers in attendance were: Michele Brown, LaSadia Lee, Stephanie Malone, and Dorian Smith. Others in attendance were: Dr. David Chamblee, Dean of the School of Professional Studies, Dr. Judy Carter, Chair, Department of Education, and Dr. Jacqueline Fason, Coordinator of Field and Clinical Experiences. Other new teachers were not able to attend because of out of town work related responsibilities. Lunch was elegantly served by Mrs. Dee Crawford, daughter by marriage, and Dr. Christine Crawford, granddaughter.
