Faculty members of Paine College are professional educators who have the responsibility for fulfilling the College's mission, vision, ethical and spiritual values, and Strategic Plan. This is done in a manner that is consistent with the College's Faith Statement, the Christian Philosophy of Education, and other college policies. Faculty in the Department of Humanities are expected to teach undergraduate courses, which  may include evening, weekend, advise students, conduct socially significant research, enegage in teaching practices with an acute focus on documenting student learning, serve on faculty committees, attend department faculty, and other meetings, attend College convocations, and pursue profesisonal service opportunities at the local, regional, and national levels.


The Department of Humanities is seeking qualified candidates for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor of History.


Full-time teaching of undergraduate courses which may include evening, weekend courses. The courses include World History, American History, African American History, US History before 1865, US History after 1865, and courses in senior thesis writing for history majors. The candidate should have teaching experience at the college level including serving on college committees, advising students, supervising undergraduate student research projects and performing other duties as assigned.


The successful candidate will have earned a Ph.D. in History or a related field from a regionally or nationally accredited institution.

- Emphasis in American history with an ability to teach American constitutional history, diplomatic history and political science.

- Previous collegiate teaching experience is desired.

- Ability to communicate effectively in oral and written English.

- Strong interpersonal skills with students, faculty, staff, and administrators.


Salary is competitive and commensurate with professional experience, nine-month position with potential for summer employment.


Appointment will begin fall semester July 29, 2020.
