The Department of Mathematics, Sciences, and Technology (MST) in the School of Arts and Sciences at Paine College located in Augusta, Georgia invites applications for the position of Assistant Professor of Computer science and mathematics Paine College is a private institution steeped in the tenets of Methodism that provides a liberal arts education of the highest quality. Faculty in the Department of MST are expected to teach undergraduate courses, which may include evening, weekend, hybrid, and/or on-line courses; advise students; mentor students; conduct socially significant research; engage in teaching practices with an acute focus on documenting student learning; serve on faculty committees; attend departmental, faculty, and other meetings; attend College convocations; and pursue professional service opportunities at the local, regional, and national levels. | ||
JOB DESCRIPTION The Department of Mathematics, Sciences, and Technology is seeking qualified candidates for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor of computer science and mathematics. RESPONSIBILITIES Full-time teaching (15 semester credits) of undergraduate courses which may include evening, weekend, hybrid, and/or on-line courses. The courses include Computer applications and programming, Principles of programming I, principles of programming II, object oriented programing. College algebra, calculus and algorithms and data structure. Other responsibilities include advising students, mentoring students, serving on college committees, supervising undergraduate student research projects, and performing other duties as assigned. The successful candidate will have an earned doctorate (ABD may be considered.) in Mathematics or a related field from a regionally accredited institution, the Transactional Association of Christian Colleges and Schools (TRACS) accredited institution, or agencies recognized by the Department of Education and the Council on Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA). The accrediting agency must be in good standing. Preference will be given to candidates who have demonstrated grantsmanship skills and active scholarship. Additional qualifications include: · Previous collegiate teaching experience is desired. · Ability to communicate effectively in oral and written English. · Strong interpersonal skills with students, faculty, staff, and administrators. RANK AND SALARY Salary is competitive and commensurate with professional experiences; nine-month position with potential for summer employment. EFFECTIVE DATE OF APPOINTMENT Nine-month appointment to begin fall semester 2019 (July 30, 2019).
