Message From The President
September 11, 2025
Dear Paine College Community,
On this day, I would like first to acknowledge the lives that were lost and sacrifices made by First Responders on September 11th, 2001. We will never forget about the day that changed the way we live forever. We honor the memories of the victims and the brave servants who came to their rescue, and hold their loved ones in prayer.
Considering recent events that have unfolded across our nation, I am compelled to reach out to you during this challenging time. Our communities have witnessed unsettling incidents that remind us all of the importance of vigilance, sensitivity, and awareness in our everyday lives. We must stay alert and watch our surroundings as we navigate through uncertain times together. We are also reminded that political violence, in any form, is an unacceptable way of behaving in a democratic society. Disagreements do not justify hateful actions, especially gun violence. Our prayers are with the family of Charlie Kirk, the victim of senseless violence on a campus in Utah.
However, we are also mindful of the hurtful, hateful, racist, misogynistic, xenophobic, and homophobic rhetoric that Mr. Kirk directed toward many fellow citizens of this nation. Having sympathy for the victim of violence does not absolve the perpetrators of divisive political activism who seek to dehumanize and marginalize any members of society. In the face of evil and adversity, we must hold on to our faith and remember that, ultimately, God is on the side of justice. Though darkness may seem pervasive, we can find comfort in the light of hope and the strength of our unity as a community. The struggle for justice, equity, and equality is as relevant today as it was a hundred years ago.
As many of you are aware, several Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) have recently experienced campus lockdowns due to security concerns. I assure you that we are closely monitoring the situation, prioritizing the safety and well-being of our students, faculty, and staff. My colleagues and I are communicating regularly to discuss safety measures being implemented at our institutions, and we are keeping those affected in our thoughts and prayers.
In these uncertain times, I would like you to stay connected and informed. Please keep an eye on your emails and our social media channels for updates and alerts regarding our campus safety protocols. Your safety is our utmost priority, and we will make every effort to keep you informed of any developments.
Let us come together in strength and solidarity, supporting one another with love and compassion. We are not alone; together, we are resilient, and together, we will weather any storm.
Thank you for your attention and cooperation. If you witness any unusual behavior on or around campus, please notify Campus Security. "If you see something, say something." Please be sure to stay safe, stay vigilant, and stay tuned for more information.
With PC PRIDE,
President McCorn
