Paine College Mourns the Loss of Loyal Alumna and Benefactor Mrs. Ann N. Johnson ‘71
July 2, 2018
The Paine College Family was deeply saddened to learn of the passing of loyal alumna and benefactor Mrs. Ann N. Johnson, class of 1971. Dr. Jerry L. Hardee, President, said, "The loss of Mrs. Johnson is devastating to all of us who are connected to the Paine College Community. From a personal standpoint, her passing is devastating because she made me feel welcomed when I first arrived in Augusta. She pledged her continued support and kept her promise. The good part is that I was able to let her know that the Odeum located inside the Gilbert Lambuth Memorial Chapel and Music Building will be named in her honor. She was able to understand that before her passing. Her name will be permanently carved in the hallowed halls of Paine College forever."
A memorial service for Mrs. Johnson will be held Monday morning, July 2, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. in the Sanctuary of the Gilbert-Lambuth Memorial Chapel. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to any of the following:
Elim Baptist Church (Music Ministry), 2359 Mt. Auburn Street, Augusta, GA 30904; Jessye Norman School of the Performing Arts, 739 Greene Street, Augusta, GA 30901; Paine College, 1235 Fifteenth Street, Augusta, GA 30901; The Links, Inc. (Augusta Chapter), 1816 Empress Court, Augusta, GA 30906.
We will continue to keep Mr. Ellis M. Johnson ‘61 and the Family in our prayers. We share in this time of grief but also share in the love and fond memories of Mrs. Johnson.
