The Paine College Family mourns the passing of Chief Leroy Morgan, Jr.

Members of the Paine College Family and Law Enforcement agencies from surrounding counties will gather to celebrate the life of Chief Leroy Morgan, Jr. on Friday, October 7, 2022 at 1:00 p.m. The funeral service will be held at the Helen Clark Memorial Park, Peachtree Street, Louisville, Georgia. Rev. Tracy Wheeler will deliver the eulogy and Rev. Tommy Walker will officiate. Inhumation will take place in the New Fleming Baptist Church Cemetery in Bartow, Georgia.
Leroy was born on July 8, 1969 in Sandersville, GA. He was the son of Ora Martin Morgan and the late Leroy Morgan, Sr. At a young age, he became a member of Peaceful Zion Baptist Church in Wadley, Georgia. He attended school in Jefferson County, Georgia and was a graduate of Louisville High School Class of 1990.
Leroy devoted his life to community service through Law Enforcement. Before joining the Paine College Police Department in 2014, he served in the Louisville, Georgia Police Department, Jefferson County Sheriff Department, Wadley, Georgia Police Department, Waynesboro Police Department, Midville, Georgia Police Department, Keysville, Georgia Police Department, Jenkins County Sheriff Department, and Swainsboro Police Department. He was also affiliated with the Governor's Office of Highway Safety and Burke County Coding Enforcement.
"He led the Paine College Police Department for eight years and worked hard to keep the campus community safe," commented President Cheryl Evans Jones. Leroy enjoyed fishing, playing his guitar and singing. He sang with Twenty-Five Men of Burke County, Gospel Sensations of Sandersville, Georgia, and Zion Star Gospel Group of Waynesboro.
He leaves behind a lifetime of memories to his wife Chantel Upshur-Morgan, his sons: Derrick Williams, Juan Morgan, Kaden Morgan, and Christian Brown. Leroy leaves his daughters Ariel Morgan, Breanna Morgan, Iyonna Morgan, Dashai Jones and Shamira Harden. He also leaves behind his loving mother, Ora Martin Morgan, and brothers Sam Morgan, and Lee Edward Morgan, Sr. (Melissa). His sisters Loretta Thomas (Melvin), and Yulanda Evans, and grandchildren: Jaiceon Gilmore and Nolan Gilmore are among the host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who will cherish fond memories.
