Paine College Concert Choir Presents Annual Christmas

The Paine College Concert Choir is gearing up for its annual Christmas Concert. Under the direction of Professor Johnnie J. Felder, the Choir will perform holiday favorites, carols, spirituals and anthems! Dr. Rosalyn W. Floyd, Pianist, will accompany the Choir.

The performance will take place on Sunday, December 1, 2019 at 6:00 pm in the Sanctuary of the Gilbert-Lambuth Memorial Chapel. The Choir will offer a variety of Christmas spirituals, carols, and anthems. The featured guest choir will be the North Augusta High School Concert Choir who will join the Paine College Choir in a Russian classic, “Bogoroditse Devo” by Rachmaninoff and “In Silent Night,” by African American composer Mitchell Southall.

The College’s Pipe Organ will come to life during a performance by Organist Christopher T. Leysath, Director of Choirs at North Augusta High School. Having reached 50 years of age, the Paine College Pipe Organ, donated by the United Methodist Women of Georgia, is currently scheduled for restoration that will commence in January 2020. Recently, Georgia renown organ builder and repairer Donald Chance, visited Paine’s campus to implement extensive repairs over a 2-day period that rendered the instrument playable for the Concert. Beginning January 2020, Mr. Chance will implement phase one of a complete restoration of the instrument that will result in a mechanical overhaul.

Join the choirs to celebrate the holiday season. The event is free and open to the public. For more information, contact Tonya Williams in the Office of Communications at 706.821.8323, Tjwilliams@paine.edu.
