Paine College Eliminates Institutional Student Debt, Invites Former Students to Return and Complete Their Degrees

AUGUSTA, Ga. — In a bold move to remove barriers to higher education and increase degree completion, Paine College has announced the elimination of outstanding institutional student debt for former students, creating a pathway for hundreds of former Paine Lions to return and complete their degrees.

The initiative, authorized by Paine College President Dr. Lester A. McCorn, forgives unpaid balances owed directly to the College, allowing eligible former students to re-enroll without the burden of institutional debt.

“This initiative reflects who we are as an institution,” said Dr. McCorn. “Paine College has always believed in the transformative power of education. Today, we are reaffirming that belief by removing a significant obstacle that has kept too many of our students from completing the degrees they worked so hard to pursue.”

The debt forgiveness initiative is part of Paine College’s broader commitment to student success, educational equity, and institutional transformation. By eliminating institutional debt, the College is extending a second chance to students whose academic journeys were interrupted by financial hardship.

“Life happens,” McCorn said. “Financial challenges should not permanently close the door on someone’s dream of earning a college degree. We want our former students to know there is a place for them here. We are inviting them to come home, finish what they started, and become part of the exciting future of Paine College.”

Students returning to campus will experience a revitalized institution marked by new academic programs, enhanced student support services, renovated facilities, expanded campus initiatives, and renewed momentum focused on preparing graduates for leadership and service.

The announcement aligns with national efforts among colleges and universities to improve student persistence and degree completion by addressing institutional debt, one of the most common barriers preventing students from re-enrolling.

Former students interested in returning as early as the Fall 2026 semester are encouraged to begin the re-enrollment process immediately.

“Our message is simple,” McCorn said. “Your story at Paine College doesn’t have to end unfinished. Your debt to the College has been forgiven. Your opportunity to earn a Paine degree is waiting. We are ready to welcome you back to the College of Our Hearts’ Desire.”

Former students may contact the Office of Admissions for assistance with re-enrollment and financial aid options.
