16th President of Paine College
Jerry L. Hardee served as president of Paine College from 2017 to 2019, a period during which the institution was working to recover from significant financial and accreditation challenges. Prior to his presidency, he held extensive leadership roles in higher education administration, including positions in student affairs, enrollment management, and academic services. His experience equipped him to address the college’s operational and financial needs.
During his tenure, Hardee focused on stabilizing the institution and rebuilding enrollment. His administration implemented cost-saving measures, strengthened financial oversight, and initiated campus renovations and infrastructure improvements. He also worked to enhance relationships with alumni, donors, and community partners in Augusta, Georgia to support the college’s recovery efforts.
In 2019, Hardee stepped down after helping guide the institution through a critical period of stabilization. The Board of Trustees subsequently appointed new leadership to continue the college’s long-term recovery and strategic development.
