7th President of Paine College
Mr. Peters became the college’s seventh president in 1929, bringing experience as a high school principal in Louisiana and as a missionary in the Far East. During his administration, Paine College achieved full membership in the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, and the curriculum was revised to better meet students’ needs. The Golden Jubilee was celebrated, and the Paine College Ideal was composed during his tenure. Warren A. Candler Library, Randall A. Carter Gymnasium, and the George Williams Walker Science Building were also constructed. Many of the college’s surviving alumni attended Paine during his presidency and remember him as a dedicated scholar and a prudent leader.
