TITLE: Head Men's and Women's Golf Coach

REPORTS TO:  Athletic Director

 

OVERVIEW:

Paine College, a liberal arts institution, invites qualified candidates to apply for the Head Men's and Women's Golf Coach position in the Department of Athletics.  This position is classified as a 12-month, full-time at-will employment appointment with administrative, coaching and mentorship responsibilities.

JOB SUMMARY:

The Head Men's and Women's Golf Coach is expected to serve as the public face for both programs, creating and maintaining a positive public image while recruiting and training NCCAA Division I student-athletes to compete at the highest level possible.

This position must lead and maintain a NCCAA Division I program through recruiting, scheduling, teaching techniques, monitoring academic progress, budget management, fundraising, as well as promoting golf throughout the College and local community. 

Through a partnership between Paine College and the First Tee of Augusta, this position will impact the local community by providing active coaching and mentoring to First Tee participants throughout the summer (non-competition) season.

Ideal candidates must have the ability to develop a strong working knowledge and understanding of all NCCAA rules and regulations regarding compliance issues. 

Each of these functions entails decision-making that requires discretion and a significant degree of independent judgement.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

            Recruiting, Practicing and Competing

·      Identify, evaluate, and recruit outstanding prospective student-athletes

·      Establish and cultivate strong relationships with coaches

·      Participate in the planning and execution of unofficial and official recruiting visits

·      Maintain and manage recruiting logs and contact dates/time

·      Assist with promoting Paine College and its golf programs through channels that align with strategic goals and initiatives

 

Program Administration and Compliance

·      Practice and event scheduling, travel arrangements, pre-season camp arrangements and conducting player meetings

·      Hire, supervise, mentor and evaluate assistant coach

·      Responsible for compliance with NCCAA Institutional rules as well as developing team policies and guidelines that fall within the guidelines established by Paine College and its athletic department

Budget

·      Oversight of program finances, budgeting and management of all program expenses

·      Administration of athletic scholarship allocation including identifying appropriate athletes for the Lee Elder Scholarship

 

Student-Athlete Development, Mentoring and Academic Achievement

·      Enhance the student-athlete collegiate experience through team expectation and team culture

·      Stimulate personal development opportunities to include life skills, community service and professional growth

·      Emphasize academic success and retention to boost graduation rates and the academic progress rate

·      Lead the efforts of the Lee Elder Scholarship committee in an effort to identify and cultivate outstanding candidates

Community Outreach and First Tee Partnership

·      Promote and represent Paine College at various events and functions

·      Provide expertise and instruction to First Tee participants, primarily during the non-competitive, summer months

·      Demonstrate outstanding character consistent with the values associated with the First Tee

·      Become proficient in the delivery of all First Tee program content

·      Coordinate with the First Tee Executive Director throughout the year in order to deliver high quality programming to First Tee participants

Alumni Engagement, Fundraising, and Public Relations

·      Develop programs specific to alumni engagement strategies annually

·      Establish fundraising initiatives that are a part of the overarching department structure

·      Represent the College in media requests and speaking engagements

Other duties as assigned by the Director of Athletics

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

·      Bachelor's Degree; Master's Degree preferred

·      Prior coaching and competitive experience are required, with collegiate coaching experience preferred

·      Working knowledge of NCCAA rules

·      Strong written and oral communication skills

·      Available for flexible hours including nights and weekends
